Mulch?

Writing in a language that is not one's own has its difficulties. It's a challenge. A worthwhile challenge because in times like these it's not enough to speak, you have to know how to write. So here begins this adventure in English, I hope not to have many errors in writting. I will try to be very careful in this regard.

So I here start with my experience in English; nobody expects much. It's just a blog of what I'm learning abaout the English language; just that and nothing more.

I recently read an article in English about gardening. Sure, I read it for practice; my understanding of English is growing little by litte. In this article some new words and phrases caught my attention... new to me. For example: "mulch" which according to the google translator means "mantillo", a word that I don't remember having used in my life, but which refers to humus, a word that is said the same in both languages: Spanish and English.

  I can't imagine going around saying "mantillo" (in Spanish), at least not en that context. Well, in Spanish "mantillo" refers to a small sized mantle. According to de Dictionary of the Spanish language "manto" is a garment wom by some religious ministers, also used by princes, sovereigns and knights in ceremonies. I'ts open at the front and long at the back, something like the cape of some superheroes. So a mulch would be a small layer, or something like that.
